One of the most common and discussed substances today is marijuana. This substance starts a lot of conversations and discussions because people are often conflicted on whether it is helpful or harmful. Some countries have it listed as an illegal and controlled substance that is not legal for personal use. Then there are a long list of countries where it is completely legal and normal to use it without any government interference. Historically, people have smoked it for pleasure or recreation but now some are consuming it as a means to help with medical conditions. Many people that advocate for marijuana legalization argue that it is a natural plant found in nature and that it is not something made in a lab. One country where it has been illegal for most of the last century is the United States. Recently, a portion of states in the United States have passed laws to make it a legal substance.
There are some states that have only legalized it for patients that have a valid medical purpose for it. Legal marijuana in those states is only legal when the person that has it has a valid doctor’s prescription that they can show. The states that made it legal in all cases allow people to use it for recreational and medical reasons. There are some scientific and medical studies that show medical marijuana to be beneficial to people suffering from certain medical conditions. Unfortunately, federal law still has it listed as an illegal and controlled substance.
Medical marijuana has been shown to help people with cancer drastically with some of their symptoms that seem to arise when they are undergoing chemotherapy or radiation as part of their treatment. Many cancer patients going through a course of treatment have to deal with the side effects of lost appetite and a case of nausea that can be debilitating. Appetites seem to increase and nausea seems to decrease for many cancer patients that are able to have medical marijuana as part of their medical treatment plan. It makes it possible for them to gain weight and feel healthy enough to keep trying to recover.
People with other illnesses have found relief and some of those are anxiety, AIDS, and glaucoma. Societies and lawmakers are starting to become more open to accepting medical marijuana as a valid option that should be legal and free of control by the government. People that are researching medical marijuana for their own use need to be informed and know the benefits and side effects that could occur and make sure that they can consume it legally in their state or country of residence.
