Minnesota is now 18-5-0 on the season and 13-2-0 in the WCHA-Women's League.

I think you're referring to the Canadian Hockey -- Breakaway store Catalog.

Subject: inline skate help

hi folks,

i've been playing inline hockey for a couple months now and i was
hoping i could get some advice... i have Ferland brand skates and i
have problems with my ankles. i lace my skates up as tight as i can
and i also use a velcro strap at the top to give me extra stability,
but by the 2nd period of the games, my skates are digging into my
ankle bones.

i bought long socks so i could fold them over and give my ankles a
little more protection, but it's not helping. is there a way i can
get my skates to stay a little tighter? should i have invested in a
higher quality skate?

any advice would be great. thanks!

peace,
amy

Hi--I can repeat some advice given to me. I've got one really bad ankle
from repeated soccer injuries, and was worried about skating on it.

To summarize what I was told from various sources: don't depend on your
boot for ankle support--lacing up as tight as possible limits your
flexibility and encourages re-injury (and also puts strain on other parts of
your leg/foot). Find an ankle support with a slim profile or find a
professional to teach you how to tape your ankle before play (or better yet,
have them do it). There are a couple of brands of ankle supports out there
that lace up or use velcro. The set of supports I have also have removable
braces. Without the braces, it's not much thicker than a sock, so if you
have room to wear a thick sock, you could wear this. Tape underneath if
needed.

Cheers,

Si.

Women*s Hockey Badgers Complete Sweep Of Buckeyes

Madison, Wis. * Kerry Weiland (Palmer, Alaska) scored twice in 15-second span of the first period to lead the Badger women*s hockey team to a 3-2, WCHA victory over Ohio State at the Dane County Coliseum on Sunday.

It was the second game in a row the Badgers had a player score twice in a short span. Yesterday, Kelly Kegley (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) scored two goals in a 10-second stretch of the third period en route to her first career hat trick.

Today, it was Kegley who tallied the game-winner. With the score 2-2 at the start of the third, the frosh scored 22 seconds into the period. It was her 12th goal of the season and fourth of the weekend.

The Badgers fell behind at 5:12 of the game when Shana Frost, from behind the goal, fed Corinne Rosen. The Badgers* Weiland evened the game and then gave Wisconsin the lead with two spectacular goals at 13:11 and 13:26. On both goals, Weiland stick-handled around Ohio State defenders before beating OSU goalie Melisa Glaser. The first tally was unassisted, with Leslie Toner (Wausau, Wis.) getting the lone assist on the second.

"Weiland with her two goals and creative play is fun to watch," said Badger head coach Julie Sasner.

Corinne Rosen scored her second of the game for the Buckeyes with the only goal of the second stanza at 2:17. Rosen converted a rebound of a shot by OSU*s Frost.

The Badger defense allowed just 15 shots after giving up 31 in the first game of the series. Jackie MacMillan (Buffalo, Minn.) stopped 13 of the 15 to improve to 6-3-1.. Glaser stopped 22 shots for OSU to fall to 2-13-0.

"Another solid team effort by us," said Sasner. "I think we are fortunate to win this game. The game could have gone either way. We got another strong game from our goaltender*big weekend for Kegley, big weekend for Weiland and big weekend for MacMillan. And now, for the most part, everyone*s healthy and that*s a positive."

The Badgers (12-10-2, 9-6-1 WCHA) travel to Bemidji State for their next action. The teams will meet for two games, on Jan. 28-29, at 7:05 p.m.

Hello. Sorry to bug everyone, but someone sent a message (Not sure if it was
to me or the entire list) from UF about their team. I accidentally deleted it
before I could read it. If someone could please resend it to me or if the
person who wrote it could contact me individually, that would be great.
Thanks!

Don't laugh too hard at this. In Anaheim, Guy Hebert got
new pads and asked the team bus driver to run over the pads
twice before the first game he played in them.
