Women*s Hockey Edges Mankato, 3-1

Madison, Wis. - Sophomore Kendra Antony (Yorkton, Sask.) scored twice to help Wisconsin edge MSU, Mankato, 3-1, at the Alliant Energy Center Coliseum on Saturday.
Antony scored her eighth of the season at the 15-minute mark to start the scoring. Standing at the blue line, Steph Millar (Hudson, Wis.) took a pass along the boards from Antony before sending it back to the forward in the corner. Antony used a nifty move around one Maverick defender and skated the puck out front before beating MSU*s Shari Vogt.
Michelle Sikich (Apple Valley, Minn.) notched what would be the game-winner just 16 seconds later when Kelly Kegley (Inver Grove Heights, Minn.) forced a turnover at the MSU blue line before dishing it off to Sikich, who back-handed it through Vogt*s five-hole. It was Sikich*s third goal and game-winning goal of the season.
Sheri Maisonneuve brought the Mavericks within one at 6:29 of the second with a breakaway goal, but the UW put the game away at 15:19 of the same period on Antony*s second goal.
Sis Paulsen (Eau Claire, Wis.) set up Meghan Hunter (Oil Springs, Ont.) in the high slot for a shot. The shot was stopped, but Antony awaited the rebound, putting it home for the 3-1 lead.
*We were fortunate to win today, 3-1,* said head coach Trina Bourget. *Mankato came with intensity today and our team did not. It*s that simple. Our team is young and our it has to come to play no matter who the opponent is. Kerry Weiland was sick earlier in the week and missed practice, but she came back and she was on fire today. That*s what we are looking for. That same intensity game in and game out.*
The Badgers outshot the Mavericks 37-10, but MSU goaltender Shari Vogt kept her team in the contest making several spectacular saves on the way to a 1-6-1 record. Jackie MacMillan (Buffalo, Minn.) stopped nine shots in improving to 9-3-2 on the year.
*Shari Vogt made some great saves,* Bourget said. *She is one of the top goalies in our league. We were fortunate Kendra Antony was there today. She was pretty consistent and played well forechecking, creating opportunities and finishing.*
Wisconsin (10-3-2, 7-2-2 WCHA) reaches the midpoint of its conference season tomorrow when MSU, Mankato (1-11-1, 0-10-1) again visits Madison for the series finale. The contest begins at 1:05 p.m.
