Do you say, ăThere ought to be a better way to do it,"
or do you say, "That's the way it has always been done"?

The San Jose Rhinos (RHI) have cheerleaders. Ugh.

Where are the four WPHL teams going to be?? I want to support the one
closest to me (in California)...

Thanks,

Jenn

I'd like to thank Margaret for helping out and the rest of you for not
calling me at home:-)

My successs actually came from a different place though, and this might be
helpful for other new teams.

I called the feature editor at our local paper, the Stamford Advocate, and
told them about our team. A senior women's hockey team was a real novel
idea for them and they were very excited about writing an article for
their "living" section. They sent a photographer and writer to our
practice. Two weeks later, we had a half page color photo on the front
page of the living section with a long story and even a caption with a
small photo on the front page of the paper. We had a goalie and several
new players at our next practice - just in time for our game that night!
We were happy to have more players and they were thrilled to have a place
to play.

So now that we have a real team, any B or lower teams in CT or the
tri-state area, please contact me.

Didn't the NHL Stars have cheerleaders or dancers in one of their last
seasons in Minn? I thought they had pom pom girls on the stairs when
the CBC camera showed crowd shots. In Ottawa for a few seasons
the Sens had "the dancer", a guy who would dance to the music during
breaks. He started out as just a hyper fan but got himself a job out of it,
dancing and throwing Sens merchandise into the stands (don't know if
the job paid well, but he seemed to enjoy himself).

Is the schedule out for the Olympics? I am suppose to have a baby
around that time and just wondering if I should order the TV for my room
when I preregister at the hospital.

Thanks,

Tanya

My local pro hockey team is the San Diego Gulls of the West Coast Hockey
League (WCHL). They are just starting their third year as a franchise
(actually, the entire league is that young), and I was somewhat
surprised/disappointed/offended (a little) to see cheesy cheeleaders among
the stands for the first time since the team's inception. The Gulls have
proudly been the league champions the last two years and are off to a
terrific start in their quest for a three-peat. The Gulls also hold the
record for the highest season attendance in the league. And they managed
these accomplishments without the annoying presence of pom-pom wielding girls
in skimpy outfits. But some marketing genius within the organization
probably decided to follow the trend of the '90's which is to appeal to the
lowest common denomenator to make sales. They know that true fans will go to
the games to see hockey anyway, and they can lure others with less knowledge
of the sport with promises of fights on the ice and girls in the stands. The
way I see it, just as "there is no crying in baseball," there should be no
cheerleading in hockey.

Seeing as Cammi Granato is the worlds best hockey player (regardless of
gender), one day as I was in the hockey store I decided to honor myself by
spending a mere $25 on the one and only Louisville Granato model (thats Cammi
not Tony).

As I started walking out to the car carefully trying not to bump or scratch
the one and only Louisville Granato model (thats Cammi not TOny) the stick
suddenly began to lift me up and flew me and my hockey bag to the car.
Throught the past week my one and only Louisville Granato model (thats Cammi
not Tony) has achieved similar tasks such as doing my homework, washing MY
car, cleaning my house, and other equally as tedious tasks. Of course this
can only be expected from an article of Cammi Granato's design but I thought
I'd share my story with the group.... If you have had a similar experience
with the one and only Louisville Granato model (thats Cammi not Tony) please
email Shabooeee at Shabooeee @AOL.com.

love always,
annanamous
