Hey Folks, don't take my last message directions literally! (Overworked,
etc..) I just took another look at the "Official Map" to the Aud, and you'll
be looking for Hwy. 8 WEST (not north as previously indicated). It looks like
you're supposed to go Hwy. 7 & 8 towards Waterloo. If you happen to be going
towards Stratford, just get off at the Courtland exit (eastbound?) and it
eventually turns into Ottawa St., where the Aud is.
Failing that, look for the signs posted on Hwy. 8-there are some indicating
the Women's Worlds. (They weren't all up when I was up there today). If ya
still can't find it, just ask anybody, ya know how friendly we Canucks are!
Sorry about my previous orienteering exercise.
Kathy

Take the 401 highway once you're in Ontario, and go eastbound. Go north on
highway 8 (it will eventually split off into highway 7 & 8 east-go that way).
Take the Ottawa St. exit, and go west. The Aud is on the north side of the
street. Hope this helps. See ya there!

TCW defeated Finland 5 to 1 in Barrie, Friday night.
TCW 1 - 2 - 2 5 Shots 9 - 10 - 21 = 40
Finland 0 - 0 - 1 1 8 - 01 - 6 = 15
The Finns skated well but had difficulty in their own end of the rink with their
defensive zone coverages. The first two goals were powerplay goals by Wilson
and Goyette. Goyette had a second goal and the remaining two goals were from
Jayna Hefford.
Leslie Reddon played the first two periods for Canada and Danielle Dube played
the third. The Finns need to work on the special teams since one of the Canadian
goals was short handed and many of their powerplays resulted in no shots on net.

Kristen,
I have played both ice and roller hockey and there are some major
differences. First of all, stopping. It's tough to do in roller hockey.
I've been working on the power slide, which is basically a tight turn
where you press down on the heel with your outside foot (you should hear
a squeal). A true hockey stop is very difficult! I also have played
outdoors and indoors and would highly recommend indoors on sport court.
It is 'softer' to fall on and doesn't destroy your equipment as much. I
use Mission skates (about the only ones that truly fit women) with 4
wheels (Hyper Formula G's). I also bought a duplicate set of equipment
(got some nice bonuses at work) and the majority is regular ice stuff.
Most roller hockey stuff doesn't have enough padding. There is one
exception and that is the pants. Ice hockey pants would be way too warm,
so I have a hard shell girdle, Biltrite, and wear WSI pants. I still
sweat like a horse, but at least I'm protected. Even though the game is
a little slower than ice, due to not being able to stop fast, I find it
rougher and I think you could have a greater chance of injury, twisted
ankles, blown knees, etc. Finally, the actual offensive and defensive
strategy is different from ice, because you only have four players per
side. I find the line between offense and defense blurs during the game.
Anyway, it's a great workout and I think it helps me in ice hockey, as
long as you don't carry over some of the differences, such as stopping.
If you have any other questions, let me know...you're not in the Chicago
area are you?
