First, my apologies to those of you who see this multiple times,
there's no good way of doing this....

For the last few months, we've been involved in a project here at
Plaidworks to completely replace the mailing list systems we're using,
and upgrading to a new, more powerful, faster server.

That project is now entering its final phases. The new server is up and
fully functional, and needs only to have the new documentation and web
sites written for it -- as well as being tested.

To do this, I'm looking for users of the current server willing to beat
on the new one, try things out, and generally see what happens. Since
the documentation is being written in parallel with the test, there's
no much documentation, so I'm asking people who aren't familiar with
mailing lists and how to deal with the servers to please not get
involved yet -- I need a more senior crew here, because I want all of
this done and in production by august 1, and that leaves little time
for babysitting. You're welcome to poke and play, but if you get in
trouble, I'll likely solve it by cutting you back off the server....

If you want to participate in this test, and in the discussions on the
documentation work and other administrative pieces I need to put
together, there's a new mailing list:
. There's also
a digest version of this at .

Note that the new server is based on majordomo, so things are somewhat
different from the current server. You can get started by emailing
and sending it a command of "help" or
"info list-beta-talk". (I want to reiterate this: if what I'm saying
makes no sense to you, please hold off getting involved into later...)

When you get on that list, it'll give you the info on testing and where
the various pieces are. As we pull it all together, there will be a
more general review that anyone can join.

*ALL* current lists here on plaidworks will be converted to the new
server, which will become the new plaidworks.com machine. The current
machine will be phased out and turned off. I hope to do this by about
August first, which is an aggressive schedule for this kind of work. I
expect to move things one list at a time, and we'll give everyone on
the lists advance notice and schedule the changeovers to be as painless
as possible, but expect some minor disruptions. The results will be
more than worth it, though.

As we get closer, I'll make new feature lists and other documentation
available, as well as asking for a final sanity check on the
documentation. STay tuned for more details.

To those of you willing to help out in this final development phase:
thanks! I hope this will be a better system by getting more brains
involved in the final polishing of the new software. It'll bring us up
in line with most of the mail standards, and among other things, really
improve our ability ot filter noisy posts and users out of the
system.... But more on that later.

Take care.
